After you've got your website to a reasonably complete state, you'll want to start getting people to look at it. There are three main ways to do this:
1. Put your URL (web address) on all of your letterheads, brochures, leaflets and other stationery and marketing materials.
2. Get other related websites to link to it - this is usually done by agreeing to link back to their websites.
3. Getting your website listed on search engines such as Google and Lycos.
Below is a brief guide on how to get your website listed on Google, Altavista, AOL Search, DirectHit, HotBot, Lycos, Netscape Search and many other search engines in one easy step.
1. Go to http://dmoz.org/
2. Navigate through the sections and sub-sections until you find a suitable directory for your website (it's like getting your organisation listed in the Yellow Pages - it's best to find the right section otherwise people will find it harder to find you).
3. Once your looking at the page which you'd like to be listed on, click the "add URL" or "suggest URL" link at the top right hand side of the page.
4. You'll need to enter your URL (web address), the title of your site (usually your organisation's name), a brief description of your site/organisation, and your email address. There is plenty of guidance on this page itself to help you through this process. When you've done this, click "submit" at the bottom of the page.
NB - It can take up to 3 MONTHS for this information to be incorporated on all of the major search engines, so just because you're not listed straight away doesn't mean that something hasn't worked.
